Room-by-room Vastu
Choosing the plot & land
- Prefer a square or rectangular plot; avoid irregular, triangular or heavily cut shapes.
- A plot with roads on the north and/or east (north-east corner plot) is considered highly auspicious.
- The land should ideally slope gently down towards the north and east, and be higher on the south and west.
- An extended north-east corner is beneficial; a cut or missing north-east is best avoided.
- Avoid plots at a T-junction where a road points directly at the plot (veedhi shoola), and sharply pointed corners.
- Soft, fertile soil and a regular boundary are preferred; check for good natural drainage.
Main entrance & directions
- The main door is the mouth of energy — north, east and especially north-east facing entrances are most favourable.
- A north or east main door invites prosperity and positive morning energy; make it the largest and best-maintained door.
- Ensure the entrance is well-lit, clean and unobstructed — no shoe racks, dustbins or clutter right at the door.
- Avoid the main door directly facing a staircase, a toilet, or another door in a straight line.
- A threshold (umbro), a nameplate and auspicious symbols like Om or Swastik above the door are traditional and welcoming.
- The door should open clockwise into the home and not creak; keep hinges oiled.
Living & drawing room
- Locate the living room in the north, east or north-east for openness and light.
- Place heavy furniture towards the south and west; keep the north-east lighter and more open.
- The head of the family should sit facing north or east when receiving guests.
- Electronics like the television are best on the south-east wall.

Kitchen
- The south-east (Agni corner) is the ideal location for the kitchen; the north-west is an acceptable alternative.

Master bedroom
- The master bedroom is best placed in the south-west, which supports stability and strong relationships.

Staircase
- Staircases are best in the south, west or south-west; avoid the north-east and the exact centre.
